The movie Rajneeti

Today me and my office colleagues bunked office and set off to see the movie 'Rajneeti'.This being the first time office bunk, i was awfully exicted about the whole thing. We were right on time ,entered the hall just as the movie started rolling. The first half of this movie was ok,the dirty politics, how everything is about power and winning election and nothing else, but on the whole i found this movie pretty disappointing. Some of the actors did some superb acting, they fully did justice to the role given to them for example Ranbir Kapoor as Samar, Arjun Rampal as Prithvi and Manoj Bajpai as Divender. Ajay Devgan and Katreena Kaif were i feel an absolute waste.

The biggest issue that i had with this movie is the lack of any particular political ideology amongst the female cast in the movie,in the beginning of the movie a young comrade is shown as being a political opposer to her own father,at that moment i felt this movie is about something real ,but unfortunately there is insipid love angle between Naziruddin Shah and this young comrade woman ,which eventually leads to her getting pregnant and an end to her political career.

I feel the movie was shot from a very masculine point of view ,women shown as empty heads and a way to win elections.Be it the initial comrade,Katreena Kaif these women i believe the movie didn't depict them as strong individuals.Katreena Kaif (Indu)sniveling to be loved by Samar(Ranbir Kapoor) and later on goes and marries his older brother Arjun Rampal.

Another issue that I had is about the way Prakash Jha is trying to redeem the characters of Samar and Prithvi ,Prithvi dies trying to save his brother's foreign girlfriend(Couldn't see the sense of bringing in a foreigner for this role) and how Samar towards the end of the movie blames all his dirty deeds on politics.

A time pass movie and nothing else
